John Guest was deported as a convict. Sentenced to seven years on January 16th 1835 he was taken to Australia on the Moffat. There he met and married Hannah Lowe a woman with a chequered past. She had at least one conviction for being drunk and disorderly and her first husband had been murdered in 1835 by a man called William Lowe. The Hobart Town courier described Hannah who was 17 at the time as "a most drepraved character, having subsquently cohabited with Cole whom she acknowledged she liked better than her husband". John and Hannah had nine children before John, by then a leasholder of a farm at Heidleberg in Victoria was killed after a riding accident. At the inquest, witnesses described how the horse pulling the buggy in which he was riding stumbled and his chest was crushed by one of the wheels. He died later of peneumonia.
