He married Doris May DEWSBERRY in 1928 in Llanelli CMN St Peters Church . Griffith was employed as Company Director, Welding Engineers in Llanelli CMN 12 Great Western Crescent.
Griff and his brother Ivor served in the first world war, Griff in the Royal Field Artillery. When they returned, Griff went back to the family business JH Evans and Sons which became Western Engineering Works. As there was no call for coach building, Griff developed the firm into a welding and foundry business.

John Herbert EVANS [Parents] was born on 28 Nov 1868 in Llanarthney CMN Waunifor . He was christened on 25 Jan 1869 in Llanarthney CMN St David Parish Church. In 1888 John Herbert Evans established the Western Wagon Works at 12, Great Western Crescent, Llanelli and the yard behind called Gathen Yard. He was helped in business by his brother William Valentine Evans, a wheelwright who built the first mail coach for Llanelly. The business later became JH Evans and Son. When JH retired, he took over the Polyn at Llanarthney, the pub that had been run by his grandfather William Evans, and changed its name back to the New Lodge Inn. When he died, he passed the pub to his son Griff who disposed of it for four hundred pounds.

Frank ROBERTS [Parents] [scrapbook] was born on 29 Apr 1894 in Llanelli CMN. He died on 31 Mar 1960 in Llanelli CMN Swansea Road Nurseries. The cause of death was Heart Attack. He married Eluned GRIFFITH on 19 Sep 1922 in Pencaenewydd CAE Chapel. Frank was employed as Market Gardener in Llanelli CMN.
Frank Roberts and his brother Tom who died in the First World War were born just over a year apart. They both played the violin in the school orchestra and were offered jobs at the Hippodrome Variety Theatre in Llanelli, but their father would not allow it. They both went on to study to become teachers at Aberystwyth University until the outbreak of the War in which Tom was killed and Frank was wounded. Frank reached the rank of Captain and after the war was awarded the Military Cross. The citation records how “with 16 men and no officer, by judicious use of his Lewis guns he deceived the enemy as to his numbers and held on to his position for 24 hours without support on his flank, under heavy shell fire, inflicting considerable casualties on the enemy both with his own guns and with machine guns captured the day before”. After the war he returned to Aberystwyth where he met his wife Eluned and returned to Llanelli to join the family business. A keen sportsman in his youth, playing Rugby, boxing and rowing he was a talented and artistic florist who loved to work in the open air. In 1936 he was convinced, from his reading and his interest in current affairs, that war with Germany was inevitable. He and his brother Jack tried to enlist but were turned away because of their reserved occupation and he became a company comnmander in the Home Guard. He he had a number of heart attacks during his adult life and died at the Nurseries at the age of 66.
Eluned GRIFFITH [Parents] [scrapbook] was born on 25 Sep 1898 in Llithfaen CAE School House. She died on 24 Dec 1990 in Llanelli CMN Y Plas Home for the Elderly. The cause of death was Cerebrovascular Disease Obstructive Airways disease. She married Frank ROBERTS on 19 Sep 1922 in Pencaenewydd CAE Chapel. Eluned was employed as a Teacher.
A fine bridge player and a keen golfer, Eluned was beloved Nain to Richard and Huw, her grandsons who she she helped bring up after the death of her husband. Educated at her father’s school in Llithfaen and Pwllheli Grammar school, she got a degree from Aberystwyth University in 1919 where she met Frank Roberts. After two years teaching at a boarding school in Harrogate she married and moved to Llanelli where she lived and worked at Swansea Road Nurseries. She was Captain, President and Secretary of the Ladies’ Section of the Ashburnham Golf Club.

Robert DEWSBERRY [Parents] was born on 28 Apr 1874 in Burslem STS. He died on 28 Feb 1926 in Llanelli CMN . He was buried in Llanelli CMN Box Cemetery . He married Lizzie THOMAS on 26 Oct 1895 in Llanelli CMN Register Office. Robert was employed as Monumental Stone Mason in Ammanford CMN Llanelli CMN.
Robert Dewsberry had a business as a monumental mason in Ammanford. He married the daughter of another stonemason Evy Thomas, who died young from inhaling particles of stone chipped from gravestones. Before his death he moved to Llanelly where he was in business with his brother Tom, a coal merchant and colliery agent. He died suddenly at the age of 52. His funeral report describes him as “an ever genial and likeable personality who enjoyed the respect and esteem of a host of friends, amongst whom his death caused a profound shock”.
