Notes for George Henry Dewsberry
George Henry Dewsberry was a talented ceramic artist. At the age of 13 he went to the Burslem School of Art where the art master, watching him paint, said "Go On, you know more than I can teach you already”. Like his brother David, he worked at the Doulton factory before starting a business decorating tiles with another artist from Doultons, F Bates. Some of the work of Bates, Dewsberry and Co is in Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, then the residence of Queen Victoria, now a show house open to the public.
