Letitia Griffth was 13 years old when she drowned in a bathing accident at Morfa Bychan. According to a report in the Cambrian News and Merionethshire Standard she was staying in her uncle and aunt’s summer house when after dinner she went out with her friend Doris Owen to the deserted beach. She couldn’t swim, got out of her depth and despite Doris’ efforts was carried away on the tide. The coronoer described her as a bright scholar with a promising career who had won a scholarship to the Pwllheli Intermediate School.
